Modern Painter's Blog

I am a painter and an illustrator with an interest in modern and conceptual art, sculpture and photography. With the help of this blog, I would like to share my passion with people near and far. I write about my work, the things I see and how I perceive them. Thanks for stopping by.

Lately I am trying to experiment more with black and white landscapes. I took the inspiration for this one from some old negatives from our vacation in Morocco and I am pretty happy with how it came out. It is a kind of landscape that poses a lot of questions and makes you think about all the things that are left out of the picture.

Last week I went to see an exhibition at the City Gallery. It was a collection of works by contemporary painters, photographers and conceptual artists. In many ways I found it inspiring and in others not so much. Let me guide you through the exhibition from my point of view.

When I first started with painting, I tried to capture every little object in great detail and fit it into a landscape that was already filled. When I saw these paintings later, I realized that a viewer probably didn't know what to concentrate on first. Discovering minimalism has really helped me with that and here are five tips that may help you as well.

About me

My first memories of painting come from the age of 6. After finishing Art School I started working on a series of paintings that is now exhibited in the City Gallery.

Learn Several Ways To Improve Your Memory

Have you ever left a pot on the stove and forgot about it? How about letting the dog outside and forgetting that he's out there for an entire night? Yeah, it happens to the best of us. Memory lapses are all too common, but luckily there are some ways in which you can strengthen your memory. Check out this article.

Avoid cramming all your material into one short study session.

Studies show that information is better retained, if you take some time to learn it. You can do this by scheduling short study sessions in the days and weeks, prior to an exam. Cramming everything into one sitting will only prove to be counter productive.

One thing that has been proven to help maintain your memory and brain function over time, is socialization. Having a strong social group and lots of interaction and conversation with family and friends will help to keep your memory flowing freely both now and as you age too.

A great way to improve your memory is to focus your attention upon the material that you are attempting to study and memorize. Since attention is a major component of memory, it must be employed to move information from short-term memory into long-term memory. To make sure you give your undivided attention to your study material, remove distractions such as music or television from your study environment.

Give your full attention and focus on what you are trying to remember.

Try to study in a place that is quiet and calm for the best memory retention. Try to actively recall information in order to move it from your short term memory to your long term memory.

It is important to get a sufficient amount of sleep if you are trying to improve your memory. Medical studies have shown that getting enough sleep every night can improve both short and long term memory. Your brain cannot absorb new information when your body has not gotten a lot of sleep.

If you find that your memory has deteriorated drastically in a short period of time, it is important that you see your doctor right away. Sudden memory loss could be a sign of a more serious medical condition, such as Dementia or Alzheimer's Disease, which can effect people of all ages.

Most of us live in routines. Our lives are centered around having the same routine each day or each week.

If we stray from that routine it can keep us from being able to remember things. Your routine is what is holding back your memory. Change how you do things each day to force your brain to develop new ways of remembering and sorting information.

As you can see, you can employ these small tips and end up with big results. The funny thing about losing your memory is that nothing's actually lost. It's all still in there. You just have to train your brain to access the memories correctly. You can do that by using the tips you have just read here.

You Can Control Your Snoring For Good

With so many things on your plate at any given time, the very last thing you would ever want to deal with is another sleepless night. For many people, however, snoring leads to just that. Whether you are guilty or just subjected to the snoring of another person, this article is sure to help.

Try to keep your head elevated when sleeping if you want to prevent snoring.

Being in this position allows your muscles and airways to get in just the right amount of air, which lessens the chance that you will snore. Just prop some pillows behind your head or use a thick pillow.

Do not drink alcoholic beverages before going to bed. The reason you might be tempted to have a nighttime drink, the fact that you want to relax, can cause you to snore. When your muscles relax because of the alcohol, so do your air passages. Your air passages become restricted, you snore.

If your child snores, make an appointment with your pediatrician.

Nose and throat problems as well as obesity are often the cause of snoring in children. Obtaining treatment for these underlying conditions can help your child stop snoring and get a good night's sleep. In addition, serious or bothersome health problems can be corrected simultaneously.

A good way to prevent your from sleeping on your back, which can make snoring worse, is to sew something on the back of your shirt that will be uncomfortable if you roll over on it. This will make you less likely to sleep in a position where you are on your back.

In order to reduce snoring you should not drink alcohol or take any kind of sedative or relaxant, including antihistamines for several hours before bedtime. Any of these things make the muscles in your body relax. Relaxed muscles close up your airway even further than normal. The blockage can cause snoring or make it worse than usual.

In order to snore less, sleep facing sideways. Back-sleepers have a much higher risk of developing snoring problems. Sleeping facing down is not a good idea, either, this puts strain on your neck. This consideration shows why side sleeping is the most beneficial choice.

Would you believe that singing out loud would help you reduce snoring? Studies show that your throat muscles become stronger as you sing. Stronger muscles in the throat and soft palate help keep your air passages open at night. This allows you to avoid snoring and get a better night's sleep.

Make sure you try to moderate the amount of exercise within an hour of going to bed.

Physical exertion can shorten your breath when you sleep. You can develop constricted airways that inevitably lead to snoring.

With any luck, the information from this article has offered some insight into solving your snoring problem. Snoring usually is not a life-threatening condition, but you can be sure that it is beyond annoying. Preserve your sanity and get a full night of uninterrupted sleep by applying the tips and tricks from this article.
